Julianne & Douglas | Newport, RI Winter Wedding

a year ago, I got an phone call from Hawaii. Now usually, I would ignore the call thinking it's some telemarketer trying to sell me something but, I felt dangerous enough to pick up. To my surprise, it was Julianne, a RI native, now living in Hawaii with Douglas, her husband-to-be. She explained her day to me...A beautiful christmas & winter themed wedding in December in lovely Newport, RI. I was immediately excited. It's not common for me to photograph anybody in the winter, never mind a wedding! She quickly put me in touch with her awesome mom, Cathy and the rest was history.

You might be thinking to yourself: "Why would a couple who lives in Hawaii want a winter wedding in Newport, RI?" I asked myself that too...Until Cathy & Julianne told me the whole story. Back in March 2003, Julianne was having a drink downtown, when in walked Doug, all dressed up in his navy uniform. A few drinks later and well, the rest was history. It was only fitting that they brought their friends and family together where they first met and fell in love. We even stopped by the bar where it all happened!

I had a blast with these two. They were so laid back, easy going, and so kind! Thank you all who put together this beautiful day. It was the perfect way to end 2015.

A look into 2016

Every photographer writes a reflection on the past year. A blog post filled with their favorite stories, photos, and personal memories. I was thinking about doing the same but then thought to myself "why follow what everyone else is doing?" 2015 was definitely a great year for me. I photographed so many weddings, met so many great people, traveled to Italy and I honestly couldn't have asked for a better year.

However, I wanted to thank every single couple who's been apart of the journey this past year. Those who let me capture their story and share it with the world. And I wanted to thank each and every couple who's story will be told in 2016. Without you all, I wouldn't be able to sit here with a smile on my face excited to see what 2016 will bring.

It looks to be a great year. We have 16 weddings planned, we were recently named on of The Knot's best of 2016, Jenn plans to move in with me and become apart of Ryan DeVoll Photography, and I'm starting to get more and more involved with music again. I hope this new year I can travel more, photograph more and spend more quiet moments watching sunsets like this one.

So here's to 2016 and what wonders it may bring...

With love,
Ryan

Ashley & Wale | MA Engagement Session

Well, I don't know about you but I honestly can't believe it's Christmas next week! The sun in shinning in the studio, it's about 55 degrees outside and the ground isn't filled with that fluffy white stuff we call snow. A few weeks ago I got together with Ashley & Wale to photograph them for their Lovebird Session! At first, we thought we'd do an indoor session since it was getting a bit chilly out, but then they were convinced that an outdoor session was the way to go! The weather didn't agree with them though. After rescheduling thanks to rain, we ended up having the session on a GORGEOUS fall day.

Although they were a bit nervous about getting their pictures taken, they seriously had nothing to worry about. These two were definitely models in their past lives - they rocked their session and walked away with some seriously stunning fall photographs. Who says you can make winter/fall session look good? All you need is two beautiful people in love and no matter what you do, the photos will come out stunning.

Independence Harbor Wedding | MA Wedding Photographer

Last week, I got to head to Independence Harbor in Assonet, MA where Nicole & Michael tied the knot! Nicole & Michael booked me last summer. We shared our love for photography, graphic design and Chippi's (if you've never been to Marisol's in Dartmouth, you don't know what your missing) Both graphic designers, our conversations began to be more about branding and marketing than actual wedding photography. These two have so much talent and for them to choose me over everyone else, was honestly a blessing. They quickly became good friends of mine and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

Before we all forget what Fall looks like (since the rain this past week blew half of the leafs off) I needed to share their absolutely stunning fall wedding on the blog. Besides the fact that we were in prime time for fall foliage, Nicole & Michael designed their own wedding from top to bottom. With their love for Disney, each of their tables in the reception we're labeled after a Disney couple. From new age Disney movies like "Wall-E & Eve" to old classics like "Cinderella & Prince Charming" Speaking of Cinderella, take a look at her dress. It's absolutely stunning and I swear, she looks exactly like her. From the cake, to the music, with the DJ playing "Be Our Guest" as an opening dance number, they would have made Mickey and Minnie proud.

Congratulation's you two. Thank you for everything!

Crissey Farms Wedding | MA Wedding Photographer

These photographs are claimed to be some of my best this year. Especially the ones taken at Naumkeag. Enjoy!

Natalie & Kenrick reached out to me when they found my site from my school's website. Don't ask me how they ended up choosing me out of a school full of photographers but boy, am I glad they did. Their wedding hosted at the beautiful Crissey Farms, in western MA went off perfectly! Despite the rain, Natalie and Kenrick was still super pumped and excited to enjoy the day where their two families would become one. Luckily, the rain held off for their amazing first look at Numkeag, an estate located right down the road where we captured some amazingly beautiful photos. I'm not going to lie - they're some of my favorites from this year.

Their reception was something unique and new for me. It didn't have dancing but rather, a traditional Chinese tea ceremony followed by dinner. The photos speak for themselves but let me tell you - it was an awesome experience.

Thanks Natalie & Kenrick - for not only allowing me to capture your story together but for being amazing clients that are now turned friends throughout the whole experience.

Senior Portrait: Savanah | MA Senior Portrait Photographer

Wow. What a week it's been.

This past weekend, I photographed Danielle & Jorge's Lovebird Session, Nicole & Michael's Walt Disney Themed Wedding (I know!) and, I just wrapped up my cousin Alexis's senior session. I've been so busy that I haven't even had time to blog! So without further ado meet: Savanah.

Savannah and I met a while back when I photographed her sister, Jenna for her senior portraits. At that time, I think Savannah might have been in 7th or 8th grade so it's been awhile. I actually photographed Savannah shortly after Jenna since their mom wanted professional photos of both of them :). Savannah hasn't changed one bit. She's still as spunky, fun, and upbeat as I remembered her to be. Her sister Jenna hasn't changed either! These two are like family to me. I love it when I can go to a photo shoot and just feel like I'm photographing two family members. Here's some of my favorites from our time together.

Michelle & Nick | MA Engagement Photographer

Michelle and I met awhile back when we worked together. When she told me she got engaged, I immediately jumped at the opportunity to be her wedding photographer and she said, "Obviously!"  Over the past few months I've gotten to know her awesome fiancé, Nick. These two are so much fun and I honestly had a blast on their Lovebird session. Working with friends, turned clients is just so easy! Nick contacted me right after he saw some of the sneak peeks and wanted to surprise Michelle with a large print for their house. We made it happen and got a print to him the next day. According to Michelle, "I balled tears for hours! That is one of the best photographs of us ever taken!"

Michelle & Nick, I can't wait for your wedding. Love you two!

XuanMai & Joe | MA Wedding Photography

XuanMai and Joe grew up together. They met in high school and have been together ever since. When choosing a spot for their Lovebird Session I recommended a park, maybe even a downtown spot but, they had something else in mind. The neighborhood where they grew up, which just happened to be on the lake. The turnout? Absolutely beautiful. Fall is definitely here and this was the perfect way to kick it off.
