2016 in Photographs

2016 was one heck of a year for me. I took over 40,000 photos, photographed over 20 couples, and met some incredible people along the way. Thank you to all of my clients who made this year so much fun and exciting. You are what keeps me going. To be able to capture beautiful memories for you and your family to share for generations to come, is a true blessing. Thank you for choosing me to be your photographer and welcoming me into your special day with opening arms! Seriously - you rock.

Here's some of my favorite moments for 2016, enjoy!

I got to photograph Ashley & Patrick in -14 degree weather and pop a bottle of champign to celebreate us not dying of frostbite. Yup.

We suddenly now offer free dog walking services at your wedding.

I got to capture all your dance moves. Even those you didn't want anyone to see...

We captured all your reactions when you first saw one another...

And even managed to photobomb quite a bit...

We watched you read a lot of hand written letters...

And saw you open up gifts like a kid on Christmas...

It rained a lot, but that didn't stop us...

Because we had those beautiful summer days too...

We made you and your wedding party laugh...

While we also saw a lot of tears...

We photographed our first elopement and honestly loved it...

And we photographed our first Jewish wedding and loved it...

You all finally got to meet Jenn...

And we had many selfies together...

Overall we had a blast, and can't thank you enough. You're the reason why we keep this up because without you it would be tough.

Cheers to 2017!

Nicole & Shaun | Lyman Estate Waltham, MA Wedding

Well it’s come to that time. The last wedding of 2016. Well, technically we have a wedding coming up at the end of this month on New Years Eve, but we figured we’d classify that one as the first one of 2017 ;)

Nicole & Shaun are some of the sweetest people I know. I’m starting to feel like I say that about all my clients, but it's true. Nicole is pretty much a woman version of me: Totally into music, theatre, and is high energy, extremely outgoing and loving. Shaun is the complete opposite: He’s a Irish fisherman (yes, he’s really Irish) who loves fishing, quiet moments, and good beer, obviously. However he has the warmest heart. I remember last year during Nicole & Shaun’s Lovebird Session in Salem, we all went out for drinks after and Shaun showed so much interest in who I was and what I do. He may be quiet and a man of few words but, once you get to know this gentlemen you realize that he cares deeply about every single person in his life, especially Nicole.

Their love was radiant on their day of. They couldn’t have asked for a better November day. The Lyman Estate provided the perfect backdrop for their story together. We got to photograph all over the grounds - including the greenhouse, which was magical! Jenn and I wanted to approach this wedding a little differently so we brought out our 16mm, fisheye lens because we knew it would make for the perfect reception shots.  These two seriously knew how to throw a party along with their amazing DJ Chuck Borowy.

I had a blast and couldn’t of asked for a better night. There is so much I want to share but, for now, enjoy this sneak peek of Nicole & Shaun’s big day!

With love,
Ryan

Brittany & Tom | Holliston Historical Society Wedding

After 9 years, these two finally tied the knot and I had the absolute honor to photograph their day. Brittany is a my cousin. Growing up, we spent all the holidays together, all the summer days at grandma's pool and all the nights where we designed MySpace templates together. We've seen each other grow up, mature and had each had our fair share in relationship troubles...until she met Tom. Tom is one of the most respectful, down to earth, and kindest people I've ever met. From that moment on, I knew these two would be inseparable. I would have NEVER guessed that I'd be the one to photograph their entire relationship. When they got together back in high school and needed some prom photos, they called me. When I needed a couple's photo for my college portfolio, I called them. 2 years ago when Tom popped the question, Brittany wanted nobody else besides me to be their wedding photographer. Just like Brittany and I watched each other grow up, I saw this couple grow. From prom photos, to a random session a year or two later, to their lovebird session and today...their wedding. This is why I do this. To tell a story. To tell THEIR STORY.

Their day was nothing but fun. I'm not going to lie - Photographing a family member's wedding makes me even more stressed. You know everyone there, there's a ton of pressure on you to nail it even more than usual and you're worried about them judging you! Admit it. However, that being said I had a blast. Knowing everyone there made the day go by so smoothly, being able to be myself instead of being in "work mode" as Jenn calls it, made me less stressed and just being able to be a guest at their wedding too, and not just the hired help was especially nice. I had the best time during the reception. Let's just say there was a certain wedding party member with some awesome dance moves. He fell in love with the tray table at one point (photo below) and maybe even twerked a bit. I was in tears from laughing.

Before we head into their wedding...lets take it back 9 years...to their prom photos!

A special shoutout & thanks to everyone to made Brittany & Tom's wedding happen. Including all these folks:

Christina & Kyle | Crestwood Country Club Rehoboth, MA Wedding

I am absolutely loving going through these images and re-living Christina & Kyle's beautiful October wedding. From the getting ready photos done at their beautiful little home, to their absolutely stunning church ceremony at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Attleboro, MA. Finally, we heading back to Crestwood Country Club where we started this year with Crystal & Tim. I am so excited to share this little sneak peek with you all. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

With love,
Ryan

and finally...

Ashley & Wale | Crissey Farm Wedding

Ashley & Wale seem like amazing best friends of mine rather than clients. These two are some of the sweetest, kindest and most appreciative people I've ever met. As soon as I met them I couldn't wait to photograph them. From our cold wintery day just over a year ago when we had a blast in their neck of the woods - to just little over a month ago at their wedding where there was a ton of dancing, lots of amazing photos, and lots and lots of laughs. Heck, I even joined them on the dance floor to showcase my awesome two step at one point. That one got a lot of laughs.

Ashley & Wale, thank you for allowing me to photograph your story. I hope you both love these sneak peeks and I can't wait to show you the rest! Thank you so much, out of the bottom of my heart for not only allowing me to photograph this journey of yours, but to become a friend rather than just a wedding vendor.

With love,
Ryan

Elizabeth & Matt | Plymouth, MA Wedding

99% of my clients find me through social media, the Knot, or even through Google. However Elizabeth & Matt are with the other 1% of couples. Liz first saw my work when I photographed her friend Alyce back in 2014. Alyce & Josh's wedding is recognized with all of my couples. It's one of my favorites! Julianne (another bride of mine) also found me through Alyce & Josh's photos. Who would have thought that they would all know one another? Alyce knew Liz, who knew Julianne and BAM! We have our first wedding where all three of our clients are in one room. What a small world! With that being said, Elizabeth & Matt knew right away who was going to be there on their wedding day to photograph them. Once they met with me, I was ecstatic for their day.

Although it was a cold and rainy day, Liz & Matt braved through it all and were great sports. They even ditched the umbrellas at one point! I had an awesome time either way. Looking back at these photos I'm reminded of how much fun we had that night. These two seriously know how to throw a great party.

I hope you all enjoy these sneak peeks!
With love,
Ryan

Julianne, Alyce, Liz and I!

And last but definitely not least, my personal favorite, and one of the best rain wedding photos I've taken to date:

A look into 2016

Every photographer writes a reflection on the past year. A blog post filled with their favorite stories, photos, and personal memories. I was thinking about doing the same but then thought to myself "why follow what everyone else is doing?" 2015 was definitely a great year for me. I photographed so many weddings, met so many great people, traveled to Italy and I honestly couldn't have asked for a better year.

However, I wanted to thank every single couple who's been apart of the journey this past year. Those who let me capture their story and share it with the world. And I wanted to thank each and every couple who's story will be told in 2016. Without you all, I wouldn't be able to sit here with a smile on my face excited to see what 2016 will bring.

It looks to be a great year. We have 16 weddings planned, we were recently named on of The Knot's best of 2016, Jenn plans to move in with me and become apart of Ryan DeVoll Photography, and I'm starting to get more and more involved with music again. I hope this new year I can travel more, photograph more and spend more quiet moments watching sunsets like this one.

So here's to 2016 and what wonders it may bring...

With love,
Ryan
