Class of 2015 In Review

High school seniors have always been a huge part of Ryan DeVoll Photography. They were one of the biggest parts of my studio when I first came back from school, photographing anywhere from 30-50 of them a year. Now, I get to photograph a few selective seniors who are more like friends of mine vs. clients. The whole "why" behind what I do stemmed from me getting my photograph taken in school. It was cookie cutter, everyone had the same photo, the same lighting and there was no personality in any of those photos. Your senior photo should be different from everybody else's. It should stand out, reflect you and showcase who you are.

These three just graduated this past weekend, so let's give it up for them! Congratulations! You did it! Now, your onto adulthood. Enjoy your summer and stay in touch!

With love,
Ryan

Parson's Reserve Lifestyle Session | MA Lifestyle Photographer

There are a lot of weeks where I tend to only pick up my camera when I need too. As if it's the outfit you put on for work. However, I remember one of my instructors at Hallmark telling me to keep shooting and never stop. Sure during the week I'm a busy bee. I have weddings to edit, clients to meet, and emails to respond to but that shouldn't stop me from keeping my creative juices flowing.

This weekend, I decided to do just that — keep my creative juices flowing. My friends and I set out to find Parson's Reserve in North Dartmouth, MA. It's a beautiful daffodil field in the middle of the woods. At first, we just wanted to go to see the place and experience it and all of its beauty. But recently I've been trying to take my camera everywhere I go. And since I had my camera, it was photo shoot time for me and my friends.

So we set off to Parson's Reserve and made some awesome images.

I also introduced them to Geocaching. If you have no idea what this is, read about it here. It's SO much fun and we found a few right in Parson's Reserve! I'm not addicted to it and even spent $10 to have the full version of the app for three months but it's a blast if you love exploring and finding new places.

Special thanks to Chelsea for modeling! You have to love having such adventurous and beautiful friends!

Newport Lifestyle Session | RI Lifestyle Photographer

I met up with Alisha & Joe just a few weeks ago in Newport, RI for their couples session. Although it was way colder and winder than we expected, they braved through it and we came out with some pretty amazing images :) Alisha & Joe met through some mutual friends 3 years ago on the 1st. Alisha was actually great friends with Joe's cousin and before you knew it, Joe and her met and the rest was history. I had a blast on their session and loved capturing their story.

Check out some of the highlights from their session!

Lifestyle Session | RI Lifestyle Photographer

Almost a week after I moved into my new place in RI, I received my first inquiry from someone in Pawtucket. Technically Tanna lives in East Providence and works in Pawtucket, but I'll still count it as a win :). She contacted me with a request I've never thought about before...Anniversary sessions.

Tanna and her husband Louie, got married a year ago on April 12, 2014. They decided that they wanted to do an anniversary session every year to celebrate their love together. I was honestly super excited when she first called me and immediately loved all of her ideas. I couldn't wait to get to know her more.

After meeting her in person, we instantly clicked! I had a blast with these two. They were so much fun and their session came out absolutely incredible. Below are some highlights from our time together. To view their full session, click here.

Cheers to the years ahead!

Winter Enagegment Session | RI Engagement Photographer

A lot of photographers say that the winter sucks for taking photos but honestly, I think it's an opportunity to be different. Not a lot of couples take photos in the winter, therefore it's unique and special, just like these two.

Meet: Isabelle & Alessandro

If you've been keeping up with the blog, I've met Isabelle about 8 years ago and Alessandro about 5 years ago. Their "across the world love" quickly grew into something more and now they're getting married this August and I am honestly honored to be their wedding photographer. A lot of times, I'd decline to be a photographer at a friends wedding, especially a friend who feels more like family. But for these two, I honestly can't wait for their big day. It's going to be magical.

I love you guys! Enjoy :)

Portrait Session | RI Portrait Photographer

Hi everyone!

Wow, it's been quite some time since I've written a blog post. It feels good to sit here on a rainy morning and type this out to you. This post is going to serve for an update for most of you. If this is your first time visiting the blog then, hello! Welcome to my little space on the inter-webs :)

Many of you know that over 3 months ago I moved away from my home town (Fall River, MA) and moved to a beautiful new loft space in Pawtucket, RI. This move was quite a jump for me. Moving away from a city I know so well, with all of my friends, family and favorite restaurants to a city where I know nobody, and have no idea where any god restaurants are is a huge leap for me. However, I've had my buddy Brian to rely on to keep me sane and to keep me company :)

Brian and I have known each other for almost 3 years now. We met in Hallmark Institute of Photography and were even suppose to be roommates. Since the roommate thing didn't pan out while we were at Hallmark, we decided to move in together in Pawtucket. Many of you know Brian as my assistant, my right-hand-man, my second shooter but he's also a great photographer who runs his own business as well :)

With this beautiful new space we have we can't deny that it's perfect for photographing. During the first week when we moved in I photographed Brian for some new headshots. Last night, we finally got to an idea that I've had for a few weeks now.

Enjoy Brian's face :)

Newport Wedding | RI Wedding Photographer

She picked up a letter at the post office and quickly glanced at it before running back to her car. It had her name on it, along with a ton of stamps and his handwriting. After not hearing from him for so long, she couldn’t wait until she got home to open it. She grabbed the end of the envelope and ran her finger along the top and ripped it open. Grinning, the first words she read were “To the love of my life Sarahâ€Ļ”

Meet: Sarah & Michael (aka Summer & Winter)

I met Sarah awhile back while I was still in high school, maybe even before that. Sarah was a friend of Casey’s who is one of my best assistants and best friends. Since I always hang out with Casey and her sisters, it was almost bound to happen that I would meet Sarah and then later Mike.

Sarah is one of those friends who you can’t forget. She’s spontaneous, funny, adventurous, daring, hyper, and above all caring. She’s a friend who worries that I will charge her extra because she was craving McDonalds before her arrival and asked me to go through the drive thru for her (yes, that happened). And Michael is a quiet, down to earth, sensitive, easy going gentlemen. They equal each other out so well.

It was honestly a blessing to photograph these two for their big day. I’ve known Sarah for so long and to see her happy and in love makes me happy. I talk a lot about “Clients turned friends” but it’s even better to talk about “friends turned clients”

Congratulations you two, you’re amazing.

With love,
Ryan
